  BASIC CARE FOR ORCHIDS

Orchids are easy plants to care for.  To keep them in tip top shape there are certain things you should  give them .

LIGHT : Orchids like bright filtered sunlight. They can take early morning sun light or very late afternoon light.( orchids leaves are a lot like human skin. So if you are going to burn in the spot where you are thinking of putting the plant. Good chance they well to.) Choose a bright cheery spot for your plants so they get happy and bloom for you. They need light to bloom .500 to 800 hundred candles.

WATER : Most orchids come from forest areas  in or around trees. Trees do not hold water they get wet then dry out . So orchids too like to get wet and dry out. Mornings are best so the plant has time to dry .

Drench pot and mist leaves and drain. Our plants grow in sphagnum so you only need to water when the plant is almost completely dry. Any where from 6 to 8 days.

FERTILIZER : We fertilize twice a month. From April to October is the growing part our season. We use Peters special 20.20.20. mix with Epson salts 3/4 of a teaspoon per gal (Epson salt helps make bigger and better flowers and helps to make stronger plants). From October to April we fertilize with 9.45.15 bloom booster. Water before you fertilize plants. This helps the plant get the fertilizer better and will not burn tender root tipps.

TEMPERATURE : Most plants come from mild climates like Thailand ,South America and so on. Where temperatures do not change to much.80 to 70 degrees is best. But they can take a little cooler or hotter. Let plants feel some temperature changes so they know what time of the year it is. Time to bloom? Time to grow?
